From the SONC Airport Committee:
Background LAWA is trying to sidestep the City Council’s call for an update to the 2006 VNY Airport Plan by doing a “Vision Study” instead. LAWA held one superficial virtual open house meeting at the start of the Vision Study in February. LAWA will be holding the second round of open houses, one in-person on April 19th, and one virtual on April 22nd. At these open houses LAWA will be presenting the results of an inventory of existing facilities and leases and requesting attendees input on potential uses for “opportunity” redevelopment sites that LAWA has identified. While our main objective is still to urge the City Council to force LAWA to do a real Airport Plan, we want to make sure that the record reflects what the impacted communities vision is for VNY, rather than the aviation industry’s vision. It is important that there be a large turnout at both events, particularly the in-person open house, since LAWA has already suggested that out of the million plus residents in the SFV only a very small portion seem to be concerned about past and continued growth in jet operations at VNY. Let’s show them they are wrong!
