Otherwise show up at your polling place between 7AM & 8PM. If you don’t know where your polling place is, go to any polling place and vote “provisionally.” Your vote will still count, it will just take a little longer for them to count it.

On average, attic insulation can save you $200 - $374 in energy savings per year. This can be a huge saving for older houses, as houses built before 1980 tend to not have attic insulation. The Aedes Mosquitoes have spread to the Valley. These insects can spread Zika, West Nile Virus, Dengue Fever, and Yellow Fever. Since 2015 120 people in LA County have caught Zika and more than 650 people have been infected with West Nile Virus. Both diseases can ruin a life. Dump any stagnant water now; the life you save could be your own. If there is an abandoned swimming pool in your neighborhood, report it to the LA County Health Department by calling (213)240-7941 or call 211. Residents are urged to use EPA registered repellents when spending time outdoors in the early morning and evening hours to prevent mosquito bites. Not all repellents are effective against mosquitoes. You are encouraged to read about, and select those products that are both effective, and appropriate for your situation. For more information on repellents, visit: https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/Dont-Give-Bugs-a-Biting-Chance.aspx

Auto Break-ins

The LAPD says the fastest growing crime is auto break-ins. You can keep from being a victim. Don’t leave tempting items in sight in your car. Lock your car every time. Put things away in the trunk or glove box. A backpack, computer, or purse sitting on the seat is an invitation for theft. Even when there’s nothing valuable in a backpack, it will cost several hundred dollars to repair a broken window. Lock it. Hide it. Keep it.

Join the Scouts in Sherman Oaks

Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Wonderful families participate in Scouting. Cub Scouts is for boys and girls ages 5-11 years and Boy Scouts is for boys & girls ages 11-18 (Cub Scouts is not a pre-requisite for Boy Scouts).   Scouting offers kids the opportunity to make life-long friends, have great experiences that broaden their horizons, including camping, boating, fishing, swimming, bicycling, interesting field trips and fun meeting activities. Scouting also offers the opportunity for achievement, rank advancement and leadership as the boys mentor and lead younger scouts. The pinnacle of Scouting is the rank of Eagle, a proud accomplishment that is a highlight on college and job applications and that your boys can share with Steven Spielberg, Neil Armstrong, Gerald Ford and others. But most importantly scouting is Fun! Cub Scout Pack 190 and Boy Scout Troop 191 meet at Church Of The Chimes in Sherman Oaks. Contact Brian Fisk by phone or text at 818-425-2058 and find out about our next meeting.

Plant new trees
Did your parkway tree die in the recent heat waves. Call the Bureau of Street Services. They have a new program to help replace dead trees. 1-800-996-2489

Parkway Trees

In this heat, some trees are suffering. Remember to water parkway trees several times a week (particularly during heatwaves) to keep them healthy. Trees provide an urban canopy that not only beautifies neighborhoods and potentially decreases heating/cooling costs, but also provides shade and helps improve our air quality. If you'd like a tree for your parkway, please visit www.lacitysan.org/freetree

New LADWP Rebate Program for Attic Insulation
LADWP has announced a new rebate program for customers who install attic insulation. Qualifying customers can receive rebates up to 80% of the total insulation installation costs or $1.00 per square foot of attic floor insulation (whichever is less). On average, attic insulation can save you $200 - $374 in energy savings per year. This can be a huge saving for older houses, as houses built before 1980 tend to not have attic insulation. https://www.ladwp.com/
