This year's event will feature green displays and rebates from LADWP, LADOT, SoCal Water Smart and Rain Barrels Intl as well as food, music and kids activities. So come, bring your family, get your free tree and help GREEN SHERMAN OAKS!!! Saturday March 18 10AM to 2PM at the Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Recreation Center, 14201 Huston Street.

Free Fruit and Shade Trees!
The SONC Board will meet Monday March 13 6:30PM at Sherman Oaks Elementary School Auditorium, 14780 Dickens Street. The guest speaker will be Nazario Sauceda, Director of the LA Street Services Department. He will be talking about the condition of our street trees. Our trees are aging. Some were lost in the recent storms. Some are a hazard and many need trimming. What is the city's schedule for tree trimming? Go to our website www.shermanoaksnc.org for the complete agenda.

Potholes Repaired
Over 100 potholes in Sherman Oaks streets are scheduled to be repaired this month. Thanks to all the residents that reported locations of these hazards. With your help SONC was able to work with the city to get them filled! Are there more potholes that need repair? We can get them fixed if you let us know. Email the street address closest to the pothole and we will get it on the next round of repairs. Email to rziff@shermanoaksnc.org

Disaster Prep with CERT
Organize Neighborhood Watch

Public Safety Committee just completed a seven week CERT training program that graduated 65 Sherman Oaks residents. CERT means Community Emergency Response Team. The program keeps the community ready for a disaster. Would you like to be part of the next FREE training program? The Committee also helps organize Neighborhood Watch groups. We will be hosting another class that will begin in May.
On January 25th, public safety committee co-chair, Kristin Sales, and committee member, Barbara McDermott, attended a tour of LAPD Communications Center - (emergency dispatch center). LAPD covers 3.9 million people over 470 square miles. They take 4.5 million calls a year. Would you like a tour? For CERT training or public safety issues contact Melissa Menard at melissa4sonc@gmail.com or Kristin Sales at kristin4sonc@gmail.com or come to the next committee meeting March 22 6:30PM at the Sherman Oaks Library, 14245 Moorpark Street.
LAPD would like to remind everyone to call 911 for the following 3 reasons:
1. Preservation of life
2. Crime in progress
3. Prevention of a crime (someone has a weapon in hand)
Otherwise, call the LAPD non-emergency number: 877-ASK-LAPD (275-5273).
